ABOUT ME

I am an award-winning composer and sound designer working primarily in theatre and film, based in Vancouver BC. My work has been seen and heard on stages all over Canada and I have been fortunate enough to work with some of Canada’s top directors and designers. Specializing in cinematic style compositions, unique world building, dramatic and immersive sound design, my work spans the technical and creative horizons, with an emphasis on collaboration, storytelling, and seamless integration to action/picture.

Beyond the creative fields of sound and music, I work recording sound on set for commercials, documentaries, and independent films as well as mixing and mastering podcasts, recording audio dramas, and projecting films for festivals.

In my free time I continue to pursue my passions for writing by producing my own music and I’ve recently started writing my own scripts for short films, documentaries, and spec commercials.

I studied music production and audio engineering at Douglas College, and I teach sound design for theatre at Langara’s Studio 58. I have received 1 Betty Mitchell award (Calgary) and 3 Jessie Awards (Vancouver) as well as several nominations for outstanding sound design and original composition.

Based on the variety of my past contracts, I am quite versatile in my abilities as a composer and sound designer, and I look forward to discussing your vision. I am certain we can develop a fruitful collaborative relationship and a satisfactory final product no matter what your needs are. I am committed to seeing things through to the end in a timely manner and I get a great sense of accomplishment when I know that expectations have been exceeded.

VIMFF 2020 February Festival Trailer

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival will present several guest speakers and feature films highlighting adventurers with disabilities, athletes who promote inclusivity, and the themes of climate change and the environment. The Festival will be February 21 to March 1 at 9 venues around the Lower Mainland. On the VIMFF’s Opening Night presented by Arc’teryx, Shelma Jun will be screening her new film Duality, about her identity as a climber and Korean-American immigrant. Through her trip to Korea, she explores her dual identity but also how the connections we make to places and experiences are intrinsically tied together. Shelma’s also the founder of Flash Foxy and the Women’s Climbing Festival, a national climbing organization that focuses on empowering women through climbing. Climbing Blind (UK), directed by Alistair Lee. North American Premiere Jesse Dufton is a British climber affected, from birth, by a degenerative disease where he can only distinguish between light and dark. Despite his condition Jesse takes on the ambitious challenge of attempting to be the first blind person to climb the Old Man of Hoy, a 137-meter high sandstone monolith emerges from the sea, in the Orkney Islands. Grand Prize Winner at the 2019 Kendal Mountain Festival. The Weight of Water (USA), directed by Michael Brown. Guest speaker: Erik Weihenmayer Grand Prize Winner at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, The Weight of Water is the story of a blind adventurer, Erik Weihenmayer taking on an absurdly improbable challenge, kayaking the Grand Canyon. Erik was the first adventurer without eyes to summit Mount Everest. The River and the Wall (USA) Director: Ben Masters This urgent and compelling doc follows five friends as they venture into the unknown wilds of the Texas borderlands and travel 1,200 miles along the Rio Grande. On horses, mountain bikes, and canoes, they set out to document the potential impacts of a Wall on the natural environment. As the wilderness gives way to the more populated and heavily trafficked Lower Rio Grande Valley, they come face-to-face with the human side of the immigration debate and enter uncharted emotional waters. Beautiful BC Show - Eileen Bistrisky VIMFF Board Chair and regular MC, Eileen Bistrisky, continuously encourages audiences to be #InspiredByVIMFF. During last year’s festival, Eileen was inspired to attempt to summit all Vancouver North Shore peaks in the ever-growing “Bagger Challenge”. 82 official peaks in our own back yard! Two films about the environment in BC will be screened: Howe Sound and In Our Nature. Stories from the Magic Canoe - Briony Penn and Cecelia Reekie Who better to tell the narrative of our times about the restoration of land and culture than Wa’xaid (the good river), or Cecil Paul, a Xenaksiala elder who pursued both in his ancestral home, the Kitlope - now the largest protected unlogged temperate rainforest left on the planet. Join Wa’xaid’s daughter Cecelia Reekie and author and annotator Briony Penn who meticulously transcribes Wa’xaid’s stories and teachings in her book – Stories from the Magic Canoe of Wa’xaid. Surviving the Outback – Australia’s Sarah Marquis National Geographic explorer Sarah Marquis takes us on a solo journey through Australia’s outback. A fundraiser for the Australian bushfire relief effort. $2 per ticket for this show will be donated to WWF’s Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Fund, so they can care for their injured wildlife and help restore the forest homes of koalas, kangaroos and other animals that were lost. Other Guest Speakers include: Adventure Photographer Corey Rich; French paddler Nouria Newman; Protect the Arctic by wildlife conservationist Peter Mather; Trail Running with Mira Rai from Nepal; and a Mountain Bike Show with Hans Rey. The VIMFF presents exciting mountain films from BC and around the world, plus inspiring, live multimedia presentations from over 25 leading adventurers and storytellers.
